RUBONDO ISLAND NATIONAL PARK

History of Rubondo Island National Park

Originally, Rubondo Island was designated as a game reserve in 1965 and its establishment was primarily to safeguard its diverse wildlife. The Zinza tribe who stayed on this island and planted banana were relocated to the nearby islands as well as the mainland in the late 1960s.
